Resources For Oklahoma Families Facing School Closures

As many Oklahoma families face the reality of school closures, EKCO is here to help. We’re actively looking for solutions to challenges families face during this time, participating in community efforts and — as always — listening to students, parents and teachers. If you have feedback or ideas on how to support families or improve Oklahoma education, we want to hear from you! Get in touch at anytime at info@everykidcountsok.org or use our contact form.

Additionally, to help immediately, our team has compiled the following list of resources from across the state:

FOOD INSECURITY
Facing food scarcity or know someone in need? Hunger Free Oklahoma can help. Find statewide food sources, applications for the SNAP program or — if you want to help other families in need — opportunities to serve in their resources guide.

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
The COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for students, educators, and parents across the state. The Mental Health Association of Oklahoma is ready to help anyone struggling with their mental health. Explore resources from podcasts to support groups to helplines on their website.

TUTORING SUPPORT
Did you know many of Oklahoma’s public library systems and YMCA’s offer online homework help and tutoring for kids? If your child is at home for distance learning this week and you need additional support, find free tutoring resources in your area by visiting this guide from School Choice Week.

COVID-19 TESTING
The State of Oklahoma has compiled a list of testing sites across the state. If you or your child are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, use their guide to find the nearest testing site.

COVID-19 RESOURCES
Looking for guidance on the ever-changing guidelines for COVID-19? The Oklahoma State Department of Health has resources and answers to common questions about COVID-19. Learn what you should know about the virus and how to protect your family by visiting their information guide.

As always, our mission at EKCO is to partner with educators, parents and community leaders to bring positive change to Oklahoma education and empower our students. If you know resources that should be added to the above guide or want to get involved in our work, please get in touch.
