Unanimous Renewal of Charter Schools in Tulsa by Tulsa Public Schools Board

Parents, teachers and students are delighted and administrators are breathing a sigh of relief after the Tulsa Public Schools board renewed the charters of four area schools.

College Bound Academy, a charter school for Kindergarten through 4th grades was approved for a three year term that ends June 30, 2025. According to the board, “College Bound Academy has met most of the individual requirements and has met the aggregate expectations established in our charter framework.”

Tulsa Honor Academy was approved for a five year term that will allow the charter school for 5th through 8th grades to continue until June 30, 2027. According to the board, “Tulsa Honor Academy has met the expectations established in our charter framework.”

Tulsa Legacy Charter School was approved for a three year term that will end June 30, 2025. Tulsa Legacy Charter educates Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students. “Tulsa Legacy Charter School has met most of the individual requirements and has met the aggregate expectations established in our charter framework,” according to the Tulsa Public Schools board.

Collegiate Hall, a nonprofit for Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grades, was renewed for a two year term which will expire on June 30, 2024. However, it must undergo quarterly assessments evaluating its financial health as a condition of its charter renewal.

EKCO met with staff at each school following their renewals to congratulate them. The charter of each school was renewed without a single “nea” vote. A marked difference from past renewals in which charter schools had to fight to survive.

While COVID weary from contract tracing, concerns over cafeteria schedules and social distancing as well as significant learning loss gaps; College Bound Academy, Tulsa Honor Academy, Tulsa Legacy Charter School and Collegiate Hall are grateful to still be educating students for years into the future.
